There are only so many hours in the day, week and month. If we truly want to scale our business, sometimes we need to “get out of the way” and let the business grow. When we understand we don’t have to do everything, we gain tremendous power. These are not get rich quick schemes, just 5 easy ways to make money with your website.
1. Affiliate marketing
First, this is one topic which is misunderstood and generates some interesting emotions. Most people simply do not understand the topic or concept. There is nothing underhanded or nefarious about affiliate marketing if you are transparent about it. Simply put, you set up an agreement with a company who will pay you a commission. You present content suggesting the reader either learn more about a product or service and provide them a specific, trackable link to the other company’s website. If the reader makes a purchase or fulfills sine criteria, you get a commission from the other company. The key here is to be transparent to the reader. In almost all cases, there is no cost to the reader, but there is an incentive from the author which needs to be disclosed. This is actually quite common on blogs.
2. Direct selling
Next, if you have a business website, it should be in the business of selling your product or service. Your website should always consider who the customer will be and educate, handle objections and make a purchasing decision quick and easy. The more steps you put a lead through, your chance of success exponentially decreases with each step. Get your customer to a purchasing decision as quickly as possible. For example we sell our RemoteMinded Remote Power Pack, a product providing hundreds of resources for those who want to work remotely or telecommute. You will frequently see a paragraph sharing how to get our product at the bottom of our articles. This should be on your website today if it isn’t.
3. Digital downloads.
Thirdly, how many times have you been to a website offering their latest book or whitepaper? Many get hung up on the term eBook. With very few exceptions every eBook out there are either a .pdf file or a file compatible with a Kindle eBook reader. Software to create either file formats are readily available and there are free or trial versions to get you started. Finally, on this topic, there is no reason not to create an eBook, it positions you as the expert and it virtually costs you nothing to produce.
4. Lead generation
Wait a minute, I thought you said this was about making money on my website? You would be right. You have to have leads before you have sales, let your website do the heavy work here. Again, you sometimes need to get out of the way, here is a premier example. Let your website help schedule an appointment for you to close a sale? There are many plugins available to automate this for you. Even Facebook has a method to book appointments on your behalf. Your lead list is arguably your most valuable asset. This is a way to follow up with leads, they may not need something today, but with regular follow up those leads could convert to future customers.
5. Sell Ads
Last in the list is sell ads. The more traffic you consistently get will command higher ad rates from others. One word of caution here, just don’t get too carried away here. Too many site bombard you with ads while providing trivial or minimal content. All too frequently a single article is broken up into 10 or 15 or 20 pages loaded with ads. Don’t do that. Aside from your web page taking forever to load, your reader won’t come back.
Take the high road, provide ads related to the content or products you presenting. For example if you have an article on travel, you may have an ad promoting a travel agency.
